A subcontractor who was hired to vacuum asbestos out of a building that was contaminated was recently fired.

The company was hired to clean the building and rid it of asbestos after last weeks steam pipe explosion.

Fired Department Shuts Down Subcontractor

Officials from the Boston Fire Department reportedly forced the subcontractor to quit the clean up after discovering that the workers were not certified to be removing asbestos from the building.

According to witnesses, a white cloud filled the air on Otis Street late Tuesday night and the area was reported as being “hot”, meaning that it was contaminated.

After being discovered, the subcontractor allegedly fled the scene and drove a truck full of asbestos to Chelsea, where police are now guarding the vehicle.

Works Exposed to Asbestos

Workers from Trigen, the company that runs the steam pipes, were supposedly exposed to asbestos when the pipes burst.

According to reports they were decontaminated immediately.

However, the risk of asbestos contaminating the surrounding areas is still under investigation.
