Asbestos Problems at Las Vegas Resort Exposed
Asbestos Problems at Las Vegas Resort Exposed
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009
A worker for Harrah’s Las Vegas recently exposed asbestos problems at the Rio hotel and casino, preventing guests and his fellow employees from being exposed to the dangerous substance.
As a result of his actions, the resort was fined $11, 500 for violating 18 workplace guidelines and protected many from having asbestos-related problems in the future.
Employee Speaks Out
Although several employees at the Rio saw the floor that was infested with asbestos during the remodeling of the suites, it was Fred Frazzetta who took action.
Frazzetta reportedly raised questions to his employers regarding whether or not the work was being done with the required permits and whether the public was being put at risk.
He claims that others knew about the asbestos problems and after calling the company hotline to voice his concerns was wrongfully fired for allegedly “stealing light bulbs.”
“I would hope anyone in my situation would do the same thing,” says Frazzetta. “People could have been harmed and I just tried to do the right thing.”
Resort Fined and Required to Remove Asbestos
Since Frazzetta revealed the asbestos problems at the resort, 700 rooms have reportedly been closed down at the Rio and an asbestos removal project is underway.
According to County Manager Virginia Valentine, Frazzetta’s efforts have improved the public’s safety.
